Welcome to my teaching page!

I am an experienced and passionate piano teacher. I established a popular teaching practice in North London where I lived for the last 20 years. My mission is to pass on my love and knowledge of music to students of all ages and abilities, and to inspire them in finding their inner expression of music. I have taken many students through beginner to diploma level, and truly enjoyed nurturing them.

Alongside my private teaching, I am often invited to give masterclasses at music conservatoires in Japan, Singapore, Russia, Ukraine and United Kingdom. My students have enjoyed the challenge of performing in concerts and festivals. Although my aim is not primarily based on achievements of grades, many of my students are awarded for high distinctions by ABRSM and Trinity College exams, and gained music scholarships at schools and conservatoires.

As a mother of two boys, who started the piano with me at early ages, I am able to discover the best ways to connect with children. I create a programme of study tailored specifically for individual needs. My teaching style is shaped by the understanding of different pedagogical methods and my experience as a performer. I am currently based in Brighton. I teach both online and face to face in Brighton and London. If you are interested in taking lessons please feel free to contact me! Here are some testimonials from my students’ parents:

“My 13 year old daughter started taking piano lessons with Chisato as a complete beginner a year and a half ago, having played the cello for seven years. She has made astonishing progress during this time and really enjoys her lessons. Chisato is an excellent teacher, who responds to her pupil’s individual ability and past musical experience, and also to their character and potential. Chisato’s choice of pieces is always interesting and varied. Chisato has high expectations of her pupils, and always motivates them to stretch themselves, but she is so warm and encouraging that my daughter is always happy to practise and do her best for her. Lastly, Chisato’s remarkable talent as a pianist is very palpable in her lessons, and makes her a very inspiring teacher.”

“Eliza has been a student of Chisato’s for almost ten years, during which time playing piano has become a central part of her life. After gaining a distinction at Grade 8 Eliza is now working for her diploma, and despite planning to be abroad for much of her gap year will continue to be under Chisato’s guidance as much as she possibly can. Chisato balances the rigours of examination with the satisfaction of playing pieces for pleasure’s sake and Eliza’s continually growing repertoire is both broad and challenging. She has been a source of inspiration at all times, giving her the benefit of her teaching but also giving Eliza the space to develop her own expressive style. She is hugely supportive of all her pupils, organising regular concerts to showcase their achievements and passing on her love of performance. Above all things, she has transferred her love of the piano to Eliza to the extent that, without a hint of parental pressure, practice has become a central component to her day as she strives to be the very best pianist she can be. We unequivocally recommend Chisato as a teacher, mentor, inspiration and friend..”

“My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Chisato since the fall of 2014 and has looked forward to her piano lessons each week. Chisato’s teaching style is the perfect balance of friendly and inspiring, yet firm with an emphasis on progress. Being an incredible musician and an accomplished performing pianist, Chisato sets high expectations and inspires her students through her own love of music. I am very lucky to have my daughter learn with Chisato and would highly recommend her to any student fortunate enough to work with her!“
